Special Air Quality Alert Cancellation and Open-Air Burning Reminder

Environment Canada has cancelled the Special Air Quality Statement for our area.
However, we continue to encourage all residents to monitor air quality conditions and abide by the County’s Open-Air Burning Bylaw. Please remember: no open-air burning is permitted during air quality or smog alerts.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for our area due to smoke from forest fires.
Please note: As outlined in the County’s Open-Air Burning Bylaw, no open-air burning is permitted during air quality or smog alerts.

Storm Sewer Maintenance in New Durham July 15-18, 2025

The County of Brant will be conducting routine inspection and maintenance work on the Storm Sewer System in the following areas of New Durham:
- Harley Road
- Orth Drive
The work is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, July 15, to Friday, July 18, between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

The reconstruction of Dumfries Street from Main Street to the dead end, and of Catherine Street from Dumfries Street to Washington Street is anticipated to start on or about Monday, July 21, 2025. The work is expected to take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

Please be advised that Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for the County of Brant for Monday, July 14.
Smoke from forest fires over northern Ontario has moved into the area, causing the air quality to deteriorate. Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility. The poor air quality may persist through the day and possibly into Tuesday for some areas.

The Medical Officer of Health for Grand Erie Public Health is issuing a heat warning, effective July 11, 2025.
A heat warning is issued when Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts two consecutive days with a maximum daily temperature of 31°C or higher during the day and a minimum temperature of 20°C or higher during the evening, or a humidex of 40°C or higher. The warning will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.
